Despite the
rain and the homeworks, this year's valentine was perfect for me. I got
chocolate and whishes, I was even involved in a friend's romantic
mission to get his girl back -___- , but what makes the day really
special is how it ended in the night.
I attended a gig called Pameran
Patah Hati #2: Move On Phobia in Kedai Kopi, Jalan Kaliurang. This
unique exhibition involved people who are still broken hearted after
their lovers left them. Here they showed a compilation of 'artifact’
left by ex-lovers. The idea was very unique, and the presentation was so
cool.
They displayed eyeglasses frame, dolls, harmonica, and even a
condom that was sadly never been used. Visitors also can taste a jar of
apple jam made by a participant during his/her darkest hours after the
break up.
They also exhibit a series of nude photographs by Ocha (Lady
Gorgom) that was spleeendddiiddd!!! To sweeten the cheerful broken heart
parade, there were performances of musical poems, absurd groups of
people, and pop bands Between the bands there were Gorong-gorong, a
group of boys playing Javanese ethnic music complete with flowers and
inscence. The nuance were so intense in gloom, and they were playing as
if they were a group of shamans that accepts broken hearted clients who
wants to voodoo their lovers back (reminds me of someone I know).
The
second absurd group was Penjaskes (Penjahat Kesenian) who distributed
eleven pieces of paper to eleven persons. The persons should read the
valentine philosophy written in the papers, and to burn them if they did
not agree with what was written, and to write them on the wall if they
agree. The philosophical ideas were usually sexual ones, and I saw a lot
of burned papers. They ended the show with a poem. These people were
amazing. I hug my friends and told them how much the show really amused
me.
The bands were Jalan Pulang and Summer in Vienna. The two bands were
really really sweet, I fell in love with them eventually! It was
precious to listen to Jalan Pulang in a rainy evening surrounded by
friends, to listen to the songs of love and broken heart, sweeten with
piano and glockenspiel, and the bass player and the guitar player who
sang their heart out as the backing vocals. Summer in Vienna closed the
show beautifully and cheerfully, with nice cello parts and sing-a-long
lyrics such as "Kita nggak jadi pergi karena kita malas!", ensured us
that it is okay to be broken hearted! The exhibition lasts for three
days in three different coffee places in Jogja: Kedai Kopi, Philokophie,
and Djendelo Cafe. Tonight is a Saturday night, and it will be the
closing of the exhibition in Djendelo with jazz performances.

(additional info: I got a 'wedding' proposal from Summer in Vienna to be their bass player at the end of the night. It really made my day. I played my first gig with them the next weekend).
