Cross is the most sacred symbol of Christianity. However, thousand years before current time, Rome’s army used to use cross to torture and punish people. It was a mean and cruel tool, used to torture people. Now imagine if Christ was beheaded by guillotine, stabbed with dagger, hung in gallows, or electrocuted in an electric chair. Could you imagine yourself praising a guillotine, dagger, or electric chair?
Thinking of a cross, maybe it never crossed your mind that a cross was a very mean tool. People really endure the suffering of pain and humiliation during the crucifixion. Hundreds or even thousands of people had ever been hung, tortured, humiliated, and died on a cross.
Now cross is very sacred. You make a cross sign before praying. You put it as a pendant on a gold necklace. You hung a crucifix over your house main entrance. Have you ever think deeper about the symbol you are praying in front of?
Critical knowledge of God and religion would never decrease their sanctity. Critical thinkers would think deeper about their religion as a service for their beloved Creator, if they are not able to pray verbally in churches or in public. I think God would appreciate your praying in your head while thinking about religious symbols and rituals, as well as appreciating annual rituals and repeated prayers
